So last year was the first year I decided not to spend the holidays with my family. I visited in October, then celebrated with friends over the holidays. I keep in touch with my Grandma, who I know would like to see me, but my aunts, uncles, and cousins are pretty unkind and have kind of 'othered' me and all of my siblings from the family. They are not very keen on welcoming others in. I don't understand it, but quite frankly, I'm not interested in forcing myself into a room where most of the people can't muster basic decency.
Last holiday season away from family was a blast. But it does nag at me that I know my Grandparents don't have unlimited time left.
Anyone else deal with not wanting to spend the holidays with fam and wrestling with the guilt?
